After sweltering inside our house during the most recent heatwave, I made the decision to install window film on all our South-facing windows. Blackout Window Film FAQs
Blackout window film is made up of multiple layers and once it has been installed on a window, the window will be almost completely opaque. This blocks over 99% of light from passing through the window, making it an ideal choice if you need to strictly control the lighting conditions within a building.
Professional installation is recommended to ensure the best possible fit to your windows. Blackout window films are always installed on the interior side of the window to protect them from weather damage. Our team will prep the area, thoroughly cleaning all of the windows, before carefully applying each of the films. Typically a solution consisting of baby shampoo and water is used in this process.
The process of installing blackout window film can be done relatively quickly – usually in a day or less, depending on the size of the job. This ensures that the impact upon your business operations or home life is minimal.
Yes, but not during the first two months. This initial period allows the film to “settle” and bind fully to the window surface to ensure the best possible performance. Once this period has passed, any standard window cleaning spray or a soap/water solution can be used. Always make sure you use soft cloths or sponges on the film though, as abrasive cleaning brushes may scratch the surface of the film and damage it.
There are many factors that can influence exactly how long any given window film will last. Where the film is installed, the type of glass they’re applied to and the conditions inside the property all affect how well the film holds up to wear and tear.
